Federal Agencies Leveraging AI Training Tools Research (December 2024)

The research examined the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) into federal employees' training and development programs, highlighting the potential to enhance learning experiences and improve workforce efficiency. It underscored the importance of instructional designers in creating inclusive and accessible training modules tailored to the diverse needs of federal workers. Through a study involving 39 participants from six federal agencies, the research revealed that AI training tools are deemed essential for supporting employee learning and development. Key findings suggested that these tools improve engagement, comprehension, and the overall effectiveness of training programs. However, challenges such as employee hesitance to adopt new technologies and the need for customization based on varying age groups and technological comfort levels were noted. The study emphasized the importance of continued research on AI tools and their long-term impacts on job performance and employee satisfaction while recognizing the limitations around sample size and potential biases in self-reported data. Ultimately, it advocated for the federal government to prioritize integrating AI tools in training programs to support workforce adaptation to evolving learning environments.
